Marketing Outside of the Box

Retail businesses have several different options when it comes to marketing their products or services. We’ve all seen yellow pages ads, mailers, billboards, newspaper ads, we’ve heard radio spots and seen televisions spots, but how effective are these marketing methods? They must be somewhat effective or we wouldn’t be exposed to them everyday, but at what cost? The traditional marketing options above can cost anywhere from a few hundred dollars for a yellow pages ad to several thousand dollars for a radio or television spot. In today’s volatile economy it may be time to think about alternative, more cost-effective methods to create awareness about your company. Let me introduce the concept of business to business marketing or BtoB.

What is BtoB? BtoB marketing is essentially making friends and partnering up with your neighboring businesses. As a business owner you need to go hit the streets and get to know your neighboring businesses in your community. You need to wear your swag representing your business and befriend everyone you meet….not just other business owners but all people that cross your path. You befriend the receptionists, the employees, the customers, and so on. In the morning you can deliver doughnuts and bagels. If you’re marketing later in the day you can deliver granola bars, candy, etc. The important thing is giving your self an avenue to get into the businesses and make friends. You learn about their business, what they do and how they do it. It’s important to have a routine schedule when making BtoB sales calls so your new friends know when you’re going to visit and look forward to seeing you. It’s also important to do all your regular shopping in your friends places of business. This shows them that you’re a loyal neighbor and support not only their business, but the community in general. Sooner than later you need to try to refer customers to your new friends and follow up. Everyone in business, especially retail, knows that word of mouth is the best way to grow your business and that’s what BtoB is all about. BtoB is all about building relationships and trust. The types of businesses you visit are irrelevant. You need to visit everyone. Just because you may be in the business of selling phones, doesn’t mean you can’t visit the local tanning salon near your store. Over time, when you know everyone around you and they know you, the referrals will start pouring in. You can even offer discounts to your new friends and neighbors.

A Proven, Time Tested Way of Promoting Your Business

The nature of money has changed a lot over the years, from grain to gold to notes of credit to dollar bills. But while the content of the transaction has changed, the art of business promotion has remained largely the same.

Business promotion is one of the most fiercely innovative and competitive parts of any modern market. It consists of any act that brings consumers from the general marketplace to your specific place of business; the more relevant (or ‘targeted’) the customer, the better for your business.

And the good thing is it has more to do with the power of your copy, message and offer than anything else, which means even the small guys can compete against the larger players.

One method of promoting your business is through the use of flyers. A flyer is usually a one-page advertisement, but done well, it can drive targeted customers through your doors with startling cost efficiency. Here are some tips for starting a flyer campaign:

* Flyers placed on or near front doors get more attention.
* If you can, target your audience, either geographically or by income level.
* Trade shows, open houses, conferences, and other business-oriented gatherings are great places for flyers, as they automatically target only the relevant folks.
* If you make a flyer with a tearaway section, bulletin boards work very well, too.
* If you can work with a related but non-competing business to have your flyers handed out alongside their products, you can reach a wide variety of ‘warm’ targets.
* Put coupons for your product or service in your flyers to get targets’ attention.

If you can do all of these, you can maximize the effects of your flyer campaign. All you need are some flyers with strong sales copy and someone to print them in bulk, and you’re in business — quite literally.

Easy On Your Toes

It’s a very important factor, showing up at the business conference mentally well prepared for the conference and with all of your business needs close at hand. The capability to travel light on a business travel is truly a refined ability which takes into account the actual experience you may go through in the airport, the potential for missing baggage and what you do need when you get to your destination.

Numerous people have a solid mentality regarding not checking bags. The outcome is you observe virtually a comical exertion by people to tug large totes on board and jam all of them in to overhead bins. As a business traveler, your ability to relax as well as pass through the airport system using little fuss is the vital thing. Whenever you take large luggage on board on an aircraft, you change time at baggage claim for the huge hassle to get your own luggage on and off that airplane.

It’s better to balance what you actually need at the destination with all the difficulties associated with getting too much on board. In order to reduce your anxiety regarding baggage claim, leave sufficient time between your travel plans as well as your business appointments at the destination. If there are several hours or perhaps a day before you have to make your business contacts, you are able to settle down and go through the baggage claim process with no stress and anxiety.

Another problem with luggage claim is missing luggage. Therefore to make sure you will have the fundamentals when you get to your resort, misplaced baggage or not, wrap a really small tote to take on board. In that bag, only take your own simple requirements. Include things like your own medicines, contact lens supplies, sample sizes of toiletries, under garments then one change of clothing. Then you’ve got the thing you need for just one night and the next day’s conferences while your baggage catches up with you.

To pack light, perform a good inventory of what you do need. There are a handful of economies you can utilize in order to decrease the bulk of what you really are going to take without having to sacrifice your requirements and ability to look good when you make your business contacts.

* Wear a basic ensemble. When you’ve got a suit or other outfit you know is going to be your core piece, wear it on the flight. You can also put on a coat or jacket which you may require there and then fold it and use it for a pillow on the flight thus holding it out of your bag. That coat isn’t considered a part of the carry on however it can help you reduce your luggage bulk.

When you think of wholesale clothes, you think of clothes priced attractively – at bargain rates. Predominantly, these clothes are sold to you as a retailer so you can then offer it to your end customer. If you tried to buy the same clothes at designer boutiques it would set you back quite a few months’ earnings!

With globalization and liberalization, people have gained access to international markets like China, India and Malaysia. There is a growing demand for the craftsmanship and patterns of garments made in different parts of the world. Consumers also enjoy the attractive rates at which they are available without actually having to travel overseas.

Why Buy Wholesale Clothes?

  • The most obvious reason is that you can buy more dresses for resale than if you sourced them directly from manufacturers. It would be wise to buy designer wear at wholesale rates so you can price them attractively for the general market.
  • Sometimes when you want to experiment with new designs or types of garments, it would be preferable to buy them cheap so you don’t burn your fingers too much if it turns into a faux pas!
  • Children’s clothes command a huge market and parents shop very often for their growing kids. Buying clothes at wholesale rates allow you to offer these fast-moving items at reasonable prices.

What to Beware of?

  • When you buy from a foreign clothing wholesale supplier, it is possible that the clothes are not subject to adequate testing and so the quality of the clothes may not always conform to your expectations.
  • Take serious note of disclaimers that the end product may not match the pictures displayed on sites.
  • Don’t disregard the costs of importing that may not be reflected in the wholesale price when buying from international vendors.

Organizing Your Own Christmas Events

December is the time of the year when celebrations abound, as Christmas is no longer a purely Christian celebration. The whole world celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ in its own ways. An inseparable part of all Christmas celebrations in the US is organizing several events across the country. However, none of them may be as important as Christmas events hosted by one’s organization.

The Office Christmas Party
The best way to organize an office Christmas party is to hire the services of a professional event management company. You do not have to be throwing a lavish party to engage an event manager’s services; also, their services are not as exorbitant as is commonly believed. You can organize an exclusive event even in a small budget with the services of an experienced event manager.

Leave all the party planning and execution to the professionals. You should ensure, however, that you approve of the venue, the decorations and the menu chosen for the event. You should also give your inputs for the invitations that will be sent out.

Regardless of your company size, a Christmas party is a great opportunity for colleagues to bond and for showing your appreciation to the staff.

Other US Holiday Events
You can get information on the major December events online:

Christmas at the Rockefeller Center – Besides its worth-watching Christmas tree and ice skating events, this place offers you the opportunity to rub shoulders with celebrities.

Christmas at Radio City Music Hall – If you are in New York, this event is a “must attend”. Every year, people from all over the world vie for tickets to this spectacular event.

Christmas Town, USA – Consider a trip to McAdenville, North Carolina, if you want to spend Christmas in the old, traditional way.

Parade of Lights, San Diego Bay – While in California, do attend this annual event that is a special favorite with boat owners.

Christmas at Ozark Mountain – You will enjoy Christmas at Branson, Missouri, especially if you are a country music fan.
