Official name Kingdom of Morocco in Arabic is al-al-Ma?ribiyya Mamlaka which when translated into the Kingdom of the West. The word al-Maghrib or the West was often used to refer to this country. Moroccan sovereignty, proclaimed in the 1956 treaty with France and Spain, does not mean termination of economic dependence on the imperialist. In addition, France, Spain and the United States has troops and military bases in the country. Part of Moroccan territory remained under Spanish colonial rule (Ifni, the so-called Spanish Sahara and the coastal towns of Ceuta and Melilla). In 1957, Spanish authorities brutally crush a popular uprising in Ifni, which calls for reunification with Morocco.

In an effort to hamper the country’s economic development, capitalist France began exporting capital of Morocco and close industrial companies. In the fall of 1956, the Bank of Morocco fell to 84 000 francs compared to 135 000 francs in July 1955. 13, from the date of October 1, 1955 October 31, 1956, 80 companies closed and more than 200 production sharply restricted in the former French zone. The point of the two foreign sown area cut by one-third. Subversive activities increased unemployment and sent food prices. According to official figures, there are 300,000 mployed among urban residents in 1956.
In this country many Moroccan Communist Party delivered to the government programs that are sure to combat the economic consequences of colonialism, steep economic advance and improve people’s living standards. The main points of the proposal are: (1) ationalisation of major mining companies and power companies and transportation, (2) heavy industry, (3) provides for the return of land reform to the poor farmers of one million acres seized by colonialists and distribution to farmers land owned by feudal collaborationists, (4) Moroccan industry; control over private investment, national and foreign; encouragement of private investment that aims to improve the economy of Morocco soon. But the truth is only a partial measure in industry, finance and agriculture performed.
With the rapid development and rapid, especially from the manufacturing industry has been a progressive trend in the economy of an independent Morocco. A large oil refinery at Mohammedia, a textile factory in Fez and other companies have been assigned. The first achievement has been enrolled in engineering: two factories for the assembly of trucks, factories for the assembly of motor cars and tractor wheels, and several other plants have been built. The government also encourages the development of crafts, where about 200,000 people involved. The output they have a big enough place in Moroccan exports.
